Who we are
IPPS is a global network of professionals with an interest in plant production, including horticultural research and education, with the aim to improve the knowledge, skills, productivity and professionalism of its members.
IPPS has 1600 members over eight geographical regions around the world, spread over four continents.
What we do
IPPS Regions coordinate and organize various forums and activities where members can learn and share plant production knowledge.
Regional Annual Conferences are the highlight on every IPPS members’ calendar. These annual meetings are usually combined with a pre- and post-conference tour, visiting nurseries and other places of horticultural interest.
The papers presented at the annual conferences are available to all IPPS members. Professionally edited papers and presentations can be accessed on the PROCEEDINGS page. There are currently 64 Combined Proceeding volumes available.
Members may purchase the Combined Proceedings as a book, which is published annually.
Field Days & Workshops:
IPPS Regions regularly organize field days, nursery visits and workshops throughout the year.
Scholarships & Exchange Programs:
Various scholarships and exchange programs exist to encourage young members to travel and learn from others. Please visit the SCHOLARSHIP page for more information
During 1951 a group of about 70 plant propagators met in Cleveland, Ohio, and formed the IPPS with the aim to share their knowledge. Their motto: ‘ to seek and to share’. The Society has since broadened into an international forum for sharing plant production knowledge.
Who may become a member?
Membership is for individuals only. Any professionals in all fields of plant production, including horticultural research and education, students in horticulture, botanists and allied suppliers to the plant production industry, may apply for membership.
IPPS Membership is organized and administered on a Regional level. Each Region is a defined geographical area. The current Regions are: Australia, Europe, Eastern Region of North America, Southern Region of North America, Western Region of North America & Canada, Japan, New Zealand and Southern Africa.
Anyone not residing in any of the current geographical regions may apply for an International membership, administered by the IPPS International Office.
Please apply on the membership page.
When I first started work as a lecturer in horticulture I was told that if I joined only one society it must be the IPPS.
As my main interests are in plant propagation and production I have never regretted taking this advice.
